Please join by volunteering as we celebrate Women’s History Month. Here are several local organizations that serve women and girls and rely on volunteer support. Please see below to learn more about how to get involved.
Continuing a partnership started around our recent 16th Annual King Day of Service, we are working with Progeny’s Legacy Jamaa, an arts and cultural organization that teaches the history of the people of the African Diaspora through caring for the community. This March project will offer opportunities to serve mothers and their children in transition by creating care bags.
On March 18, in preparation for Mayor Michael Nutter’s 4th annual Philly Spring Clean Up, we will partner with Keep Philadelphia Beautiful to host the Community Appearance Index Program Launch. The Community Appearance Index program will help Philadelphia residents chart the progress of their neighborhoods in reducing blight. Philadelphia Block Captains, civic-minded residents, and concerned citizens are encouraged to join us.

Progeny’s Legacy Jamaa
Starting March 1
Progeny’s Legacy Jamaa is a newly-emerging arts and cultural organization that seeks to teach the history of the people of the African Diaspora through caring for the community.
As part of the 16th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service, Progeny’s Legacy Jamaa partnered with the Philadelphia Museum of Art to coordinate a project where care bags were created for new teen mothers and mothers in transition.
This project has turned into a year-round effort and the organization is now looking for participants to get involved by making a donation of goods to fill care bags or by volunteering to help create the care bags (this will involve sewing).
The care bags will be donated to mothers who receive services at organizations such as Jane Addams Place, My Sister’s Place, The Elect Program, and Educating Communities for Parenting.
Donations sought include the following items:
For Infants & Children:
Other Small Infant Care Items
Books for young people in grades K – 8
Other Small Personal Care Items
To learn more about how you can make a donation and/or volunteer, please contact Carla Wiley at (267) 808-5648 . Find Progeny’s Legacy Jamaa on Facebook by clicking here.

Volunteering is not only the right thing to do, but it make you feel good about yourself.
Martin Luther King Day is January 17, for many this is a day off. However, there are many places to volunteer to make this special holiday a day on. What better way to celebrate Dr. King’s life, then to uplift and help someone. The city of Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Deleware is holding its 16 annual MLK day of service at Girard College. Also this is a kid friendly event, so bring the little ones out.
For more info go to mlkdayofservice.org
The Phillyitgirls will be on board to volunteer and cover the Activities at Girard College!!!
